Combining nature and fashion
Achilles and the Tortoise is a young fashion label which shows us that ethics can be associated with high quality streetwear. Their mission is to transform the clothing industry and at the same time enhance natural biodiversity. They worry about the fashion industry’s negative impact on people and the planet. Excessive pollution, unsold stock, gruesome working conditions & a sixth mass extinction happening right now. Their first Amur Leopard T-shirt is made with 100% GOTS certified heavy organic cotton but their ambitions is to become zero waste. Therefore, all materials that they apply in future collections are circular sourced.
Rule of thirds
Achilles and the Tortoise aim for more transparency as the strongest tool for change and developed a completely transparent regenerative business model in which they show the ‘true’ price of clothing, called 'The Rule of Thirds'. It means that the pricing of all Achilles and the Tortoise products will be as follows: 1/3 production costs, 1/3 charitable cause. 1/3 reinvestment & profit. The model emphasizes the importance of striving to create a positive impact on:
1. The well-being of people through ensuring fair wages and good working conditions.
2. The well-being of nature by investing in specific projects to help restore biodiversity.
3. The pursuit of prosperity so that businesses can continue and improve their operations
They believe that their business model is an important pillar in the transition towards a regenerative fashion industry and a purpose economy, in which nature and people both thrive.
